Frank Mir Believes He Is An “Excellent Test” For Cormier, Looking Forward To Welcoming Him To The UFC

Former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir is generally used to being called out by ambitious heavyweight fighters. His crisp striking and ruthless submission game make him a noticeable target for any heavyweight interested in making a name for themselves or working their way into the upper echelon of the division. The latest heavyweight to campaign for an opportunity against Mir is Strikeforce Grand Prix champ Daniel Cormier, who is fresh off a second round stoppage win over Dion Starling at the Strikeforce finale.

Mir has agreed to meet Cormier in the Strikeforce cage back on November 3rd but a training injury forced him out of the bout. With his recovery close to 100% Mir is certainly interested in rescheduling the heavyweight match-up–this time in a UFC octagon.

“I’m hoping that Cormier has a very good outing against his opponent, who I can’t recall his name right now,” Mir told Heidi Fang at the MMA Awards, “The fact that we all don’t know his name very well, I’m assuming that means that [Cormier] should do well and will hopefully come through unscathed so that he can do what he wants, which is come into the UFC and I can be more than happy welcome him.”

When asked if he though that he was a tough test for Cormier, Mir explained that he believed that his unpredictable submission game will always be a dangerous element in the match-up.

“I think it’s an excellent test for him. I think, you know, always be careful what you wish for. I think that his wrestling will be tested in our fight. My submissions have the ability to definitely change outcomes of fights pretty quickly.”
