Screen shot 2013-08-30 at 10.30.50 AMFormer 3-time UFC title challenger and current talk show co-host Chael Sonnen recently attempted an unsavoury joke on ‘FOX Sports Live’ in reference to Rihanna’s domestic violence incident back in 2009. As one can assume, this did not rest with with FOX Sports, which released an apology the following morning in light of Sonnen’s comments.

Sonnen’s other, UFC President Dana White, was also not impressed with his fighter’s comment, stating he needs to “knock that shit off.”

“It is at the point where I’m not upset. Chael is a smart guy, he’s a funny guy, he’s a talented guy and has a huge future; he’s just got to stop with the – you know.”

Chael’s comment was intended as a jab at Floyd Mayweather yet backfired against the former title contender, particularly his sheepish delight as he followed up the joke with “Too soon? Was it too soon?”

“Look, Floyd needs to keep doing what he’s doing, which is fighting complete tomato cans who we’ve never heard of before. I’ve never seen anybody in the history of America get so rich and so famous off of having complete wimps throwing punch at their faces. I know what you’re saying. You’re saying, ‘Well, it’s happened before, what about Rihanna?’ Shame on you. Classless. I will not stand for it. “

White was candid about his opinion regarding Sonnen’s comments, insisting that he needs to adjust to his new job as a sports commentator and refrain from crude comments on live television.

“The joke wasn’t that funny. He is not a comedian and you can’t make fun of domestic violence or any other thing. Chael needs to stop the comedy and do what he’s on that show to do. He’s great at it. He’s super talented. Leave the jokes to the comedians. He’s a sports commentator now and he needs to knock that shit off. It’s got to stop.

It’s got to stop or it’s not going to be good.”
