During last nights UFC on Fuel TV 8 weigh -ins Diego Sanchez came in at 158lbs, two pounds over the divisional limit and was forced to give up 20% of his fight purse to his opponent Takanori Gomi. As his last fight purse was $100,000 (50k to show and 50k to win), 20% of that would be a significant chunk to lose.
Sanchez was given the option to lose the excess weight but looked to be in rough shape and chose to give up 20% of his purse.
The signs were all there as Sanchez had taken to twitter and revealed he was having a hard weight cut.
I woke up 165 that’s only nine lbs to cut, praise god for giving me the strength to do this 50 lbs weight cut was that heavy cause of injury.
On Saturday morning, he would attempt to explain the reasons behind missing weight:

Sanchez is coming off a decision loss to Jake Ellenberger back in February at the first ever UFC on FUEL TV event. The loss influenced his decision to return to lightweight, where he is bigger and significantly more powerful.
